Bio
Matyas Csiba started his musical path firstly as piano and guitar student, but later on he settled down in the world of string instruments, and the viola became his primary instrument. He went to the Richter Janos Music High School in Gyor, Hungary. Alongside his intensive chamber music and orchestral courses, he went through a training of Kodaly Method. He won a III. prize in the National Nagy Sandor Viola Competition in Budapest in 2008.
In 2010, Matyas moved to London, as he was awarded with a place to study at the Royal College of Music. His instrumental path broadened here by starting to specialize in historical performance practices and period instruments. He was taught by Susie Meszaros, Annette Isserlis and tutored by Ashley Solomon. He frequently performed and recorded with orchestras, ensembles and chamber groups, such as Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Florilegium, Amade Players, Solamente Naturali, RCM Opera Orchestra, RAM Baroque Soloists lead by wonderful musicians such as Rachel Podger, Margaret Faultless, Ashley Solomon, Anneke Scott, Steven Devine, Matthew Truscott, Patrick Cohen-Akenine, Madeleine Easton, Adrian Butterfield, Andrew Parrott Milos Valent, Didier Talpain, Sir Roger Norrington, Michael Rosewell – just to highlight few. He gradually discovered three new ways for sharing music with others – teaching, leading workshops and early years music. Thus, the horizon of his musicianship broadened further.
Alongside his performing career, Matyas taught privately violin/viola across London and at The Music House for Children. He took part in musical outreach training through the RCM Sparks department and started to lead workshops in the most varied settings – nurseries, primary schools, care homes, institutions for mentally ill people, etc.
Matyas was offered a place to study at the Historical Performance department of the Royal Academy of Music with a scholarship. He was taught by Elizabeth Wallfisch and tutored by Margaret Faultless. He was a viola player of the RAM Bach Cantata series for two years. He trained and lead workshops through the RAM Open Academy and its creative music learning and participation course, under the direction of Julian West. He obtained his Master of Music degree in 2016 and was awarded a RAM Open Academy fellowship.
Straight after his studies, Matyas gained position at The Masters Music School as a violin/viola teacher and the leader of early years music tuition. He started to teach musicianship (the Kodaly way) at the North London Conservatoire’s Colourstrings. He was appointed as early years music leader at the Fortis Green Nursery. He is regularly invited to teach upper strings in various school settings, in frames of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment’s String Club. He also gets involved in OAE Education projects.
Matyas – together with his colleague and wife, Ewa Tytman-Csiba – decided to gather all previous experiences and set up a platform for musicians and music learners – Music Experts, serving to provide valuable, useful and effective resources, courses, projects and learning opportunities. The co-directing of Music Experts, the teaching positions, various workshop projects and performing complete his musical career path at the moment. Matyas’s primary mission is to bring as much depth and valuable experiences as possible to all people who he encounters – through the power of music, online or offline.
